Taylor Winterton to State! Spartans Run Well But Come Up Short

by mont on October 25, 2015

A great day of racing at the BRF Sectional. Both teams put their hearts on the line and gave great efforts. The girl’s team finished 3rd out of 14 teams. One spot, and two points short of going to State as a team. Mauston edged the Spartans 90-92. West Salem won the girl’s race with 52 pts.
The boy’s team placed 4th out of 15 teams with 134 pts. Winning the meet was Viroqua with 78 pts, Mauston was 2nd with 112, and Nekoosa 3rd with 132 pts.

A recap of today’s sectional cross country meet at BRF. Leading the girl’s team to a very strong 3rd place finish and just 2 points from going to State as a team was Taylor Winterton. Taylor finished 4th overall in a time of 20:02. Taylor’s 4th place finish qualified her for the State Tournament as an individual. CONGRATULATIONS TAYLOR! Finishing strong for the rest of the Spartan girls were Angie Talsky 21:12 (15th), Devyn Kenworthy 21:44 (22nd), Aly Laufenberg 21:48 (24th), Kari O’Rourke 21:57 (27th), Halley Parkinson 23:34 (44th) and Sarah Anderson 26:39 (80th). Taylor, Angie, Devyn, Aly, Kari and Halley all ran faster times than their last race on the BRF course. Kari set a personal best for the season. GREAT JOB LADIES!

On the boy’s side Max Engh led the Spartans to a strong 4th place finish. Max finished in 17:48 for 13th overall despite having to battle a chest cold that hindered his running. Right behind Max were Sam Forbes in 18:09 (23rd), Caleb Pokorny 18:10 (25th), Nick Stritchko 18:31 (36th), Kole Nelson 18:31 (37th), Trygve Zurfluh 18:43 (44th) and Christian Lamon 18:54 (52nd).
