Boys and Girls Run Well At Neillsville

It was a great night of running for the Spartan Cross Country teams. The boys ran away with the team championship scoring 42 points to outdistance runner-up Medford with 70. Five Spartans finished in the top 15. Leading the Spartans was freshman Izak Anderson running a 17:35 to finish 3rd overall in a field of 126 runners. Right behind were Max Engh 17:55 (5th), Nick Stritchko 18:15 (9th), Caleb Pokorny 18:18 (10th), Kole Nelson 18:36 (15th), Ethan Anderson 19:09 (28th), Mathias Krein 20:13 (49th), Sam Forbes 20:20 (52nd), Ryan Mohr 20:41 (58th), Brennen Kenworthy 21:27 (71st) and Sean Ferguson 22:13 (84th).
Top 5 Boys Teams:
1. Sparta 42, 2. Medford 70, 3. Augusta 71, 4. Tomah 79, 5. Colby-Abbottsford 151.

The Girls Team ran a strong race finishing 2nd in the 16-team Invitational. Taylor Winterton finished 1st for the Spartans and 2nd overall in a time of 20:10. Sparta’s next three runners packed together to finish 14th, 16th and 19th overall. They were Aly Laufenberg in 22:35, Angie Talsky 22:38, and Kari O’Rourke 22:49. Rounding out the scoring for the Spartans were Lydia Hone 26:06 (57th), Julianna Pokorny 26:14 (59th) and Alyssa Falkner 34:39. There were 113 runners in the girl’s race.
