SPARTANS ENJOY THE MUD AND HILLS AT ROY GRIAK INVITATIONAL

On undoubtedly the toughest course the Spartans will run on all season both the boys an girls teams ran impressive races. The rolling, muddy course in windy conditions was not conducive to great times but the overall effort was outstanding.

The boy’s team finished 19th in a field of 54 teams. Leading the Spartans was freshman Izak Anderson with a time of 18:42. Izak finished 39th in a field of 494 runners. Close behind were Max Engh in 19:15, Ethan Anderson in 19:30, Caleb Pokorny in 19:47, Kole Nelson in 19:53, Sam Forbes in 20:01, Chad Merow in 20:52, Mathias Krein in 20:53, Ryan Mohr in 22:12 and Sean Ferguson in 25:08.

The girl’s team, running a little shorthanded, finished 35th out of 52 teams. Leading the Spartans was sophomore Taylor Winterton in a time of 21:38. Taylor finished 29th in a field of 451 runners. Angie Talsky was Sparta’s 2nd runner in 24:05, followed by Aly Laufenberg in 24:19, Kari O’Rourke in 24:46 and Lydia Hone in 27:50.

The Spartans will be back racing next Thursday, September 29 at the Dick Mitchell Invitational at Forest Hills in LaCrosse. Race information can be found in the “Events” section of the Sparta XC Facebook page.
