Spartans run for new PR’s at Wisconsin Rapids Invitational

The 21 team Wisconsin Rapids Invitational is always a great race to compete in because of the top ranked teams and outstanding runners involved. It helps bring out the best in our runners. Today was no exception. 10 of our boys and 5 of our girls had season best times in the 5K.

The Boy’s team finished 12 overall and 6th in the Division 2/3 field. Stevens Point, the State’s #5 ranked Division 1 team won the meet with 44 points. Max Engh led the Spartans with a 23rd place finish overall in a time of 17:39. There were 140 runners in the boy’s varsity race. In a close pack behind Max were Caleb Pokorny 46th-18:04, Izak Anderson 50th-18:07, Ethan Anderson 74th-18:34, Sam Forbes 83rd-18:42, Kole Nelson 74th-18:44, Chad Merow 96th-19:02 and Mathias Krein 114th-19:41.
In the boy’s JV race Ryan Mohr was Sparta’s top finisher in 20:01 followed by Brennan Kenworthy in 20:34, Sean Ferguson in 21:08 and Brady Towne in 21:44.

Taylor Winterton ran her best time of the season finishing 4th overall among 137 runners in a time of 19:28. Aly Laufenberg finished 2nd among the Spartans in 22:11, Angie Talsky finished in 22:17, Kari O’Rourke in 23:03, Tori Hanson in 23:19, Julianna Pokorny in 24:49, Lydia Hone in 26:52 and Alyssa Falkner in 33:43. The girl’s team finished 13 out of 21 teams and were 7th in Division 2/3.

The Spartans will compete next at the MVC championships next Thursday, October 13 at Maple Grove in West Salem. Races begin at 3:45 pm with the JV Boys, 4:15 pm for JV Girls, 4:50 pm is the Varsity Boys race and 5:20 pm for the Varsity Girl’s race.
