Spartans Earn All-MVC Honors at MVC Championships

Taylor Winterton, Aly Laufenberg and Max Engh earn MVC All-Conference Honors. The Spartans ran well at today’s MVC Championships, it may not show up in the team standings, but individually many of the Spartan runners ran their best times of the year. The MVC is an extremely tough and competitive cross country conference headed by several ranked boy’s and girl’s teams. The Spartans are still in their training phase and peaking to run their best at next week’s WIAA Sectional.
In the girl’s varsity race, sophomore Taylor Winterton for the 2nd straight year earned 1st Team All-MVC Honors by finishing in 4th place overall in a time of 19:40. Senior Aly Laufenberg earned her 3rd consecutive MVC Honorable Mention Award finishing 20th in a season best time of 21:48. Close behind were Angie Talsky 25th in her season best time of 22:11, Kari O’Rourke 35th in her season best time of 22:45, Tori Hanson 38th also in a season best 23:06, Lydia Hone 47th in her best time of 25:11 and Julianna Pokorny 49th in 25:33. Alyssa Falkner finished the JV race in her season best time of 31:26. The girl’s varsity team finished 5th overall.
The boy’s teams were led by senior Max Engh who finished 18th overall in a season best time of 17:31 to earn All MVC Honorable Mention honors. Izak Anderson was next for the Spartans finishing 28th in 17:53, Caleb Pokory was 35th in 18:11, Ethan Anderson 37th in his season best time of 18:14, Kole Nelson 47th in 18:48, Sam Forbes 48th in 18:53 and Chad Merow 49th in 19:15. In the JV race Mathias Krein led the Spartans overall with a career best time of 19:27, he was followed by Ryan Mohr running his best time ever in 19:45, Sean Ferguson ran his career best in 20:28, Brennen Kenworthy finished in 20:46 and Brady Towne finished in 22:08. the varsity boy’s team finished 7th overall.
The varsity boy’s and girl’s team are excited to head to WIAA Sectionals next Saturday, October 22 at Black River Falls. This is the meet our runners have been working towards and focusing on since the season began. Expect to see a focused, excited and confident group of Spartans next week as they make their drive for State.
